Does the phrase ‘SEO’ make you want to hide away, or stick your fingers in your ears & start humming a tune, because it’s all a bit confusing?

Well the good news is, if you’re a franchisee, the finer details of SEO should be taken care of by your head office so you shouldn’t have to worry about it. Things like site structure, meta information, copy that’s relevant & well-written, the customer journey, mobile optimisation, site speed.

But if you’ve a local web page as part of the main website, here are 4 things you can do to optimise your own page’s SEO.

1 – Link to your local web page

Linking to the home page from your social media accounts means you’re making it harder for people to do what you want them to do.

That’s why it’s far better to link to your local page instead.

Remember, the fewer clicks it takes someone to land on your page, the better.

2 – Get inbound links

When you get links to your local page from other reputable websites, it gives your page’s SEO a real boost.

So, whenever you’re setting up things like activity listings on directories and online parenting publications, sending out press releases, and collaborating with other local businesses, always link to your local page, rather than the home page.

3 – Claim your Google My Business listing

Google My Business is one of the best things you can do in terms of local marketing. That’s why it’s so it’s important to set up – or claim – your Google My Business listing.

Link this to your local web page, and check that the contact info on both is displayed exactly the same so Google can recognise them as being the same business.

So for example, if you display your phone number on your website with spaces, make sure you also display it with spaces on your Google My Business listing.

Then populate it with your logo and brand/class images, opening hours, etc., and update it regularly.

4 – Update your local page regularly

If you’ve access to a news section on your local page, make sure you post regular updates. That way, Google will recognise your page as being live and kicking! And don’t forget to take off any old news, otherwise your page can quickly get out of hand.

But at the very least, make sure the term dates and holidays are accurate. The last thing you want when parents land on your page is to find information that’s out of date!

All these things might seem small and insignificant, but when they’re all added together they make a pretty powerful combination!
