by the sea
If you’re looking for a friendly, no-nonsense marketing & communications professional, with bags of experience of baby, child & family brands, then you’re in the right place.
I’m Helen, and I help businesses in the baby, child and family sector grow their brands with marketing and communications that strike a chord with all the right people.
With a passion for effective communications across many marketing channels – from PR to social media, email marketing to brand development, and the customer journey to advertising – I’m also widely-experienced in franchise marketing, having spent a number of years in this unique sector.
A background in PR
I cut my PR teeth in London – first with leading international agency Hill & Knowlton, then with Saatchi-owned The Rowland Company – before gaining corporate communications experience at Dixons Group plc.
Making my mark with baby, child & family brands
For 16 years I then worked in-house in the children’s activities sector. Responsible for marketing & PR at premium children’s music brand Monkey Music, I was a key member of the team that grew the business from just a handful of franchises to over 40. I also played a central role in their bfa Brand Builder of the Year award win in 2005.
As Group Communications Manager for Water Babies I was ‘the voice’ of the brand, responsible for positioning Water Babies as the world’s leading specialist baby swim school.
I helped grow the company from 24 franchises in the UK teaching 16,000 babies per week, to an international business of almost 60 franchises teaching over 52,000 babies each week in 7 countries around the world. Furthermore, I drove the marketing for the development and rollout of their pre- and postnatal brand, WaterBumps.
Since setting up Memory Marketing, alongside working with children’s activity providers, I’ve also worked with the Children’s Activities Association and Caudwell Children on Children’s Activities Week 2019; as well as on the What’s On 4 Kids Awards 2019.
And I’m incredibly proud to have already won 2 prestigious awards: the Theo Paphitis Small Business Sunday award in May 2019, closely followed by Jacqueline Gold’s #WOW award for women in business.
Facilitating record-breaking fundraising
In 2017 I created a range of action-focused communications which facilitated record-breaking fundraising of over £1 million for Splashathon, Water Babies’ charity event for Tommy’s. Not only did this event become one of the top 25 mass participation fundraisers, it was also named the fastest-growing in the UK.
These days, I’m based by the sea in sunny Devon (so lots of seagulls, but not many elephants!) and I’m happy to work with you wherever you are in the UK – whether as your outsourced marketing manager, or an extension to your current team.
And if you want to find out more about how I can help you, just get in touch. I’m well-placed to help you figure it all out!
