Helen Sargent, Founder of Memory Marketing

If you’re looking for a no-nonsense marketing & communications professional, with bags of experience of the children's activities sector, then you’re in the right place.

I’m Helen Sargent, the founder of Memory Marketing, and I help children’s activity providers – and other businesses in the children’s activities sector – grow.

How do I do this? Through marketing and communications that strike a chord with all the right people!

So what I can do for your business?

In a nutshell, I can make your marketing work harder for you across all the different ways you communicate with your customers.

I do this by writing good copy that gets all your key messages across in a way people easily understand.

Whether that’s for your website, email marketing campaigns, social media channels, marketing materials like brochures & leaflets, or press releases.

I also understand about SEO, the customer journey, and the importance of building relationships – all of which are vital for your business.

And while that’s my skillset, it might not be yours.

Or you simply might not have the time or resources to do it in-house.

Which is where I come in.

Read on to find out more about my background and experience, how you can work with me – and why I’m the right person to help your business.

A background in PR

I cut my PR teeth in London – first with leading international agency Hill & Knowlton, then with Saatchi-owned The Rowland Company – before gaining corporate communications experience at Dixons Group plc.

Making my mark with children’s activity providers

I then spent more than 16 years working in-house in the children’s activities sector.

Responsible for marketing & PR at premium children’s music brand Monkey Music, I helped grow the business from just a handful of franchises to over 40. Furthermore, I played a central role in their bfa Brand Builder of the Year award win in 2005.

As Group Communications Manager for Water Babies I was ‘the voice’ of the brand, responsible for positioning them as the world’s leading specialist baby swim school.

I helped grow Water Babies from 24 franchises in the UK teaching 16,000 babies per week, to an international business of almost 60 franchises teaching over 52,000 babies in 7 countries.

Record-breaking fundraising

In 2017, I created a range of communications which helped achieve record-breaking fundraising of over £1 million for Splashathon, Water Babies’ charity event for Tommy’s. As well as becoming one of the top 25 mass participation fundraisers, Splashathon was also named the fastest-growing in the UK.

Memory Marketing

Alongside helping lots of activity providers since setting up Memory Marketing, I’ve also worked with the Children’s Activities Association and Caudwell Children on Children’s Activities Week 2019; as well as on the What’s On 4 Kids Awards 2019 & 2020.

And I’m incredibly proud to have 2 prestigious awards under my belt. In May 2019, I won the Theo Paphitis Small Business Sunday award, followed a month later by Jacqueline Gold’s #WOW award for women in business.

These days, I’m based by the sea in sunny Devon – so lots of seagulls, but not many elephants!

How you can work with me

I like to keep things straightforward, so there are 3 easy ways we can work together:

1. Strategy session

Sometimes you just need a bit of clarity. In a focused 2-hour session, we’ll look at what’s working, what’s not, and where the gaps are – whether you’re looking to attract more customers, recruit new franchisees, or both. You’ll leave with a fresh perspective and a set of clear, actionable next steps to move your marketing forward with confidence.

“ I got the benefit of 2 hours of her brilliant brain and am EXCITED about what that means for our burgeoning LoveScience franchise. If you’re in the Children’s Activity sector – you need her on your side.”

Abigail White, Love Science

2. One-off project

Need help with something specific? Whether it’s reviewing your website, reworking a franchise prospectus, or tightening up your marketing materials or emails – I can jump in and get it sorted.

Helen really took the time to understand my business, ensuring the franchise prospectus reflected my vision and restructuring my website to create a smooth customer journey. She also crafted a fantastic email nurture sequence to engage potential franchisees at every stage. I would highly recommend Helen.

3. Ongoing marketing

If you’re looking for someone to take the lead on your marketing, I can step in as your outsourced marketing manager. I’ll get hands-on with as much (or as little) of your marketing as you need – starting from just 1 day a month.

“I could not cope without her. She has an eye for detail and expertise that I don’t, and she makes things happen.”

Jane James, Little Voices

If you want to find out more about how I can help you, just get in touch. I’m well-placed to help you figure it all out!
